A Collier County Sheriff’s deputy in Florida pulled over a speeding car expecting a traffic stop. Minutes later, he was holding a newborn baby girl wrapped in a blanket on the side of the road.
The unforgettable moment happened around 4:30 a.m. on October 1, 2019, along Airport-Pulling Road near Tiburon Boulevard in Naples, Florida. Deputy Robert Pounds had clocked a vehicle traveling 63 mph in a 45-mph zone and moved in for the stop, unaware that the family inside was racing against something far more urgent than a speeding ticket.
Inside the car, driver Jean-Louis Wilfrid was desperately trying to get his wife, Fabienne Gorges, to the hospital after she went into labor. By the time Deputy Pounds walked up to the vehicle, the situation had escalated dramatically. Their baby was already crowning.
Instead of returning to his patrol car with license and registration, the deputy shifted straight into emergency mode. He called for EMS and backup, grabbed gloves and a blanket from his cruiser, and prepared to help deliver a child right there inside the stopped vehicle.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Pounds remained calm while speaking with the terrified parents. Fabienne Gorges was in active labor, and there was no longer enough time to reach the hospital safely.
The deputy positioned himself beside the vehicle and began guiding the mother through the delivery. Moments later, a healthy baby girl entered the world in the front seat of the car while emergency crews raced toward the scene.
For everyone involved, the sound that followed was the best possible outcome. The newborn immediately started crying, filling the roadside stop with relief and emotion instead of panic.
