The wait is over: the Lancia Ypsilon HF has officially made its thunderous debut, ushering in a new era of style, speed, and soul for the historic Italian marque. As Lancia prepares to reclaim its place among Europe's performance elite, the Ypsilon HF is a declaration that grandeur is back.

The Lancia Ypsilon HF: Electrified Heritage

The Lancia Ypsilon HF: Electrified Heritage.

At the heart of the new Lancia Ypsilon HF lies an all-electric powertrain that doesn’t just keep up with the times; it redefines them. Packing a punch with 240 horsepower, the HF storms from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.

But this isn’t just a sprint-focused sprinter. It’s been tuned with a widened track, lowered suspension, and enhanced aerodynamics to deliver exhilarating driving dynamics that live up to the "HF" badge.

That badge, by the way, isn’t just for show. HF (High Fidelity) is a sacred symbol for Lancia enthusiasts, a name that once adorned rally-dominating legends like the Delta HF Integrale. With the Ypsilon HF, Lancia is blending electric innovation with motorsport DNA in a way no other brand dares to attempt.

Style That Trumpets Its Presence

And what’s a Lancia without drama? The Lancia Ypsilon HF doesn't whisper; it shouts with unmistakable Italian flair. Aggressive front and rear bumpers, muscular wheel arches, 18-inch alloy wheels, and exclusive HF badging give the car a purposeful, predatory stance.

Lancia’s design team has even teased a “trumpeting soundtrack” — a nod to the sonic personality that once defined its roaring rally machines.

Inside, the HF boasts a driver-centric cockpit rich in tactile materials and forward-looking tech, balancing retro inspiration with modern sophistication. Expect vibrant digital displays, sustainable materials, and an ambiance that feels less like a small hatch and more like a boutique experience on wheels.

Rally Spirit Reignited: Ypsilon Rally 4 HF

But the Ypsilon HF isn't the only firecracker in Lancia’s comeback. The brand is officially returning to rallying with the Ypsilon Rally 4 HF, a homologated, front-wheel-drive rally car powered by a 1.2L turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivering 212 hp.

Built for the Rally 4 category, it reflects the brand’s storied past in motorsport while staking a claim to its electrifying future.

The Ypsilon Rally 4 HF aims to inspire young rally drivers and rekindle a love for grassroots competition, just like the original Fulvia and Delta HF did decades ago. Its design is more than a marketing ploy. It’s a living tribute to Lancia’s bold legacy of building cars that can win on Sunday and thrill on Monday.

HF Line: A Gateway To The Legend

Alongside the flagship HF model, Lancia has unveiled the Ypsilon HF Line, a trim option available across other powertrains.

With styling cues borrowed from the full-blown HF, this line includes black accents, sporty bumpers, and signature detailing that makes every Ypsilon feel just a bit more like its performance sibling. It’s the perfect option for those who want to taste the HF flair without going full-throttle.

New Lancia Ypsilon HF Price

The new Lancia Ypsilon HF marks a bold return to the hot hatch segment, and its pricing strategy is as aggressive as its styling. Priced at €41,519 (approx. $48,000), the all-electric Ypsilon HF positions itself squarely in the premium compact performance market, targeting rivals like the Alpine A290 GT Performance, Peugeot e-208 GTi, and potentially even the MINI John Cooper Works EV.

From a performance standpoint, the Ypsilon HF punches above its weight. It delivers 280 horsepower from a front-mounted electric motor, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds—quicker than the Alpine A290’s 6.4 seconds and the Peugeot e-208 GTi’s 5.7 seconds.

This makes it one of the fastest electric hot hatches in its class, especially considering its front-wheel-drive layout and compact footprint.

Lancia’s Ypsilon HF Packs Premium Performance At €41,519 – Can Rivals Keep Up?

What’s particularly compelling is how Lancia has bundled performance hardware into the price. The Ypsilon HF features a Torsen limited-slip differential, Alcon Motorsport brakes, and a lowered, wider chassis; components typically reserved for more expensive performance cars. These upgrades suggest Lancia is serious about handling dynamics, not just straight-line speed.

The Ypsilon HF's pricing is nearly identical to the Alpine A290 GT Performance, which starts at €41,700, but offers 60 more horsepower and better acceleration.

The Peugeot e-208 GTi, a technical cousin sharing the same Stellantis platform, is similarly priced but slightly slower. This positions the Ypsilon HF as a value proposition for enthusiasts seeking maximum performance per euro.

However, the picture shifts when we look across the Atlantic. In North America, the hot hatch market is shrinking, and electric options are limited. The MINI Cooper SE starts around $30,000, but with only 181 hp and a 0–60 mph time of 6.9 seconds, it’s not in the same league.

Lancia’s Ypsilon HF Packs Premium Performance.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, while far more powerful (641 hp), starts at over $66,000, placing it in a different category altogether.

This leaves the Ypsilon HF in a unique position: a European-centric EV hot hatch that offers near-premium performance at a mid-premium price. Its closest North American analog might be the Volkswagen Golf R, which starts around $46,000 and offers AWD and 315 hp, but it’s gas-powered and lacks the EV cachet.

The Ypsilon HF’s biggest challenge may be brand perception. While Lancia has a storied motorsport legacy, it’s been largely dormant outside Italy.

Competing against brands like MINI and Alpine, which have stronger pan-European recognition, could be an uphill battle. Still, for those in the know, the Ypsilon HF offers a compelling blend of heritage, performance, and value.

If Lancia can back up its specs with real-world driving excitement and expand availability beyond southern Europe, the Ypsilon HF could become a cult classic in the making.

A New Chapter Begins

Lancia's revival isn’t just nostalgic; it’s revolutionary. With the Lancia Ypsilon HF, the brand is reclaiming its rightful place among Europe’s automotive greats. It's not simply a hatchback with heritage; it’s a rolling sculpture of performance, passion, and purpose.

Expected to hit showrooms in May 2025, the Ypsilon HF marks the first in a series of performance electric vehicles to carry the HF torch. If this is how the brand kicks off its new era, the future looks fiercely thrilling.
